Protecting fuel assets from thieves is becoming a bigger and bigger part of fuel management for commercial and retail fleet fueling operations. Fleets that best safeguard their fuel employ a multi-level strategy, addressing vulnerabilities throughout the fueling process.
Gasboy has taken this into account with its lineup of AtlasX next-generation commercial and retail fuel dispensers and fuel control and fuel management technologies.
The AtlasX Security Advantage
The AtlasX next-generation commercial and retail fueling dispensers and supporting technologies from Gasboy establish a comprehensive framework that is the foundation for secure fleet fueling.
Here are three critical steps fleets should implement to improve the security of their fuel.
1. Strictly control access to fuel.
The first step in preventing fuel theft is to control who has access to your fuel. Gasboy has taken traditional authorization protocols to the next level with the AtlasX PRIME Fuel Management System, which incorporates the Gasboy authorization terminal into the AtlasX electronic dispenser platform. The factory-installed integrated unit offers a choice of multiple authorization technologies: a full alphanumeric keypad, MiFare contactless tag reader, a magnetic proprietary card reader, an HID reader, and automatic vehicle identification (AVI).
The Gasboy AVI solution, FuelPoint® PLUS, uses RFID technology to recognize vehicles that are authorized to fuel. The security of this authorization approach is unmatched by any other authorization method, ensuring fuel is only pumped into the authorized vehicle associated with an RFID tag installed on the vehicle.
Gasboy Fuel Management can also set per-transaction limits in gallons or dollars to prevent unauthorized siphoning and overfills. When paired with daily, weekly, and monthly caps, time-of-day/session controls, and detailed audit alerts, Gasboy detects suspicious activity, enforces policies, and protects your fuel budget.
2. Secure the dispenser.
Incidents of thieves tampering with dispenser pulsers, which convert the volume of dispensed fuel into an electrical pulse signal that indicates the total dollar amount of the transaction, are on the rise. Thieves who can access the pulser may be able to remove it altogether or manipulate the pulse signal, which can result in the system registering a lower volume than what was actually pumped.
Gasboy AtlasX fuel dispensers incorporate both hardware and software features designed to deter fuel theft and enhance dispenser security.
In addition to the security features integrated into full-size standalone Gasboy AtlasX dispensers, the security at satellite dispensers is also enhanced. For configurations where a master dispenser and a satellite dispenser permit the simultaneous fueling of heavy-duty trucks’ two saddle tanks on both sides of the vehicle, Gasboy AtlasX Satellite Dispensers offer an optional satellite indicator light to provide visual confirmation that the satellite nozzle is actively fueling. A Weights and Measures requirement in some states, the satellite indicator light helps to deter fueling an unauthorized vehicle or container.
3. Leverage fuel management software to identify fuel losses and quickly intervene to stop them.
Access to real-time transaction and inventory information, along with remote control of fueling system equipment, is crucial for safeguarding fuel supplies 24/7.
The EKOS cloud-hosted fuel management solution partners and connects directly with Gasboy fuel management controllers to provide an all-in-one cloud-hosted fuel management solution. EKOS offers the ability to set up theft and fraud monitoring and alerts. Additionally, EKOS users can remotely block pumps and see if alerts are user or system-based.
