    I knew of Gilbarco Veeder-Root for several years before I became interested in working at here. I have worked at other operating companies of Danaher in the past but none with the scale and complexity of Gilbarco’s operations. I had wanted to experience this kind of manufacturing and business environment.


    What I enjoy about working for Gilbarco is that even though it is such a large organization, it has a “small” feel to it. On a daily basis, you can walk down a hallway and you’re on a first name basis with everyone from the janitorial staff the VP’s.

    I would advise new and potential Gilbarco employees to not be afraid of the unknown. A new role or more responsibility can be daunting, but Gilbarco provides these opportunities to those up to the challenge. The management team does a great job of providing resources to be successful. For example, I have been in the Focus Factory Manager role since January 2015. As the EMV demand has increased the size of our operations, I have taken additional responsibility for additional areas of our plant. My role as has more than doubled in size in terms of number of personnel and revenue responsibility.

    Additionally, new and/or potential employees should know that this is a very exciting time for Gilbarco for two reasons:

    1. Gilbarco is undergoing historic growth as our customers upgrade their dispensing payment systems before the EMV liability shift.

    2. Gilbarco is now part of Fortive which represents new opportunities for all of us in the future.

    The primary thing that attracted me to Gilbarco Veeder-Root was that I could see the possibility of future career growth. I could tell that Gilbarco was willing to provide new opportunities to the employee and be willing to let them take chances and develop in their career. The most notable opportunity that I’ve had for growth is my involvement with our new ERP implementation. Through my time working on the project, I’ve been able to not only deepen my understanding of various finance processes, but also get exposed to areas outside of finance. I’ve developed a broader understanding of the business and how the multiple pieces work together. The aspect that I enjoy most about working for Gilbarco is collaborating with talented individuals across various functions and levels within the organization. It’s great to be a part of a business that fosters teamwork and rewards results. My advice for a new employee is to be ready to step into the business and take an active role in shaping what the future looks like for your team, for the company, and for our customers. We have a culture at Gilbarco that allows for the individual to have a true impact on what goes on around them. Employees just need to be willing to put themselves out there. For all employees, including existing, I would advise to talk with your manager to understand the opportunities available and express any questions and concerns. A simple conversation can go a long way to aligning expectations and giving the employee comfort that they will be supported in their career.

    I first became interested in Gilbarco Veeder-Root because of the opportunities for growth the company had to offer. With little sales experience but wanting to get into an outside sales role, I was told that Gilbarco would be a great fit as it would provide sales training and the chance to learn and grow professionally in the sales world.

    In the short time I have been employed with Gilbarco, I have had the opportunity to develop my sales skills through various training programs and by working closely with our sales team. I was hired as the distributor sales manager for North America & Canada in April 2016 and since then, I was able to become a Catlow sales manager for the Eastern U.S. and Canada. I am looking forward to working with our distributors and customers to help develop and grow our hanging hardware line for the years to come.

    I most enjoy the continuous opportunities to grow my professional career. To be able to speak with management about wanting to take the next step in your career and have their support to help find the right fit for you is very important to me. For my position specifically, I also enjoy meeting new people, developing relationships with customers and distributors, and the ability to travel.

    My advice to new or potential employees of Gilbarco is to be ready to learn, work hard, and go with the flow. Gilbarco is a very fast-paced work environment with a lot to learn. I have found that listening-in on various meetings and joining product-specific groups has helped me to get up to speed quickly. Be willing to step out of your comfort zone as well. For example, I am not a fan of public speaking or doing webcasts, but taking the time to prepare and learn the content, speaking with the experts on the product, and knowing it’s ok to NOT be perfect has helped me step outside my comfort zone tremendously.

    My advice to everyone is to just do it! You learn from taking on more responsibility and getting more involved. It’s okay to fail because it means you have tried; however, do not give up. There are so many resources and knowledgeable people ready to help and who want to see you succeed. I truly believe if you surround yourself with successful people, you will be successful. This is the environment of the sales department. The management team allows you the freedom to learn and work in your own way, but offers the guidance to help you grow and succeed as a team. If you put forth the additional effort and take on the extra responsibilities, new opportunities will open up for you. Whether it’s a promotion or a new project you take ownership of – it’s something to be proud of.

    Gilbarco Veeder-Root has been and continues to be a successful and profitable business with over 150 years of existence. Gilbarco’s product lines blend traditional mechanical and electronics with new-age, cloud-based IOT technologies. This combination creates interesting challenges from a technical and business perspective which are exciting! Most importantly, the Fortive (previously Danaher) brand and the opportunity to be part of a high-performing culture is what really attracted me to this company.

    What I enjoy most about working for Gilbarco is the quality of people and the drive that the collective management team has to win and create a sustainable high-growth business. There are more ‘A players’ as a percentage of total employees than at any company I have worked at before.

    For new and/or potential employees, my recommendation would be to be a sponge and absorb as much as you can on what makes the system tick and learn the processes that come with the Fortive Business Solutions (FBS) toolkit.

    Additionally, I advise a famous quote “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Therefore, take your shots when presented the opportunity and then put in the effort to maximize results. Engaging, learning, setting goals, and driving for results at each stage will set you up for success on the next challenge that might come your way.
